World renowned Irish soprano CELINE BYRNE

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE Sunday 16th March.

Irish soprano Celine Byrne will be our special guest at our St. Patrick’s Day parade in Valletta on Sunday 16th of March. The Irish Maltese Circle is honoured that Ms Byrne has agreed to lead the parade and sing the Irish National Anthem, along with other Irish melodies in St George’s Square following a private mass in Santa Barbara Church, Valletta.

Celine Byrne, made her operatic début as Mimi, in Scottish Opera’s 2010 production of La Bohéme and since then has performed extensively throughout Europe as well as in the US, China, Russia and Mexico. In March 2012 Celine made her Covent Garden début standing-in as the title role of Rusalka. She is recently home from her return visit to the Royal Opera House where she performed in Wagner’s Parsifal to great acclaim, securing another role there as Micaëla in 2015. Last season Celine performed the roles of Micaëla in Carmen with Moscow State Opera and Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro at Lismore Music Festival along with several concerts with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra including Mahler’s Rückert Lieder at the National Concert Hall and performances of Richard Strauss´ Vier letzte Lieder in Austria. Future engagements include concerts with José Carreras, Roberto Alagna and Placido Domingo, Richard Strauss´ Vier letzte Lieder with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin, the role of Der Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier under Patrik Ringborg in Kassel and Mimi in La Bohéme with Moscow State Opera.

A frequent concert performer, Celine has become familiar to international audiences thanks to her collaborations with world-renowned tenors José Carreras, Roberto Alagna and Joseph Calleja. Together with Carreras, Celine has graced stages in throughout Europe. Her musical partnership with Roberto Alagna has seen her in concert in Russia’s two major artistic centers; Tchaikovsky Hall, Moscow and at the Mikhailovsky (Mussorgsky) Theater, St Petersburg. Recent noteworthy engagements brought her back to Carnegie Hall, The International Eucharistic Congress and to the National Centre of Performing Arts in Beijing where her concert was broadcast to 400 million people. Celine has given public performances for such luminaries as President Obama, Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former Presidents Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese. Celine’s début CD ‘For Eternity’ was released in October 2010 and it was recorded with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and produced by RTÉ lyric fm.
